What Is Salmo Supreme Dubbing?
Salmo Supreme is a blend of three materials: Angel Hair, fine flash fibres, and trilobal fibres. The combination gives the dubbing a unique quality — it has movement, sparkle, and bulk without being stiff or hard to work with. The fibre length runs up to 70mm, which means you can dub thin for a sparse nymph or build it up for a burlier streamer or salmon fly body.
Originally developed for salmon and steelhead patterns, tyers quickly discovered it works equally well for sea trout flies, loch-style wets, and freshwater streamers — anywhere you want a body that catches light and moves in the water.
The Colours
We stock Salmo Supreme in an extensive range at £2.80 per pack. One colour that deserves a special mention is Rainbow — it became widely known among sea trout tyers through its use in the Brenda, a sea trout fly that proved devastatingly effective and helped put Salmo Supreme on the map in the UK. If you tie sea trout flies, Rainbow is the colour to start with.
Beyond Rainbow, the range covers natural earthy tones like Golden Olive, Fiery Brown, Tan, and Claret through to vivid fluorescents including Fluo Orange, Fluo Pink, and Fluo Chartreuse. There are classics too — Peacock, Black Peacock, and Dark Peacock for traditional patterns, plus UV Silver Grey for modern UV-reactive flies.
